Flower essence therapy has been a part of my practice for several years now. But in the end, I provide this therapy for very few of my clients. Why? I am thinking because it is a broad concept that is just hard to explain. So let me try in my own words.

We human beings are made up of energy. All the flora of this planet is also made up of energy. That energy is readily transferred from plant to human, based on our very close and symbiotic relationship. (Case in point: hemoglobin and chlorophyll are identical in structure save for one molecule!) So the whole field of phytotherapy, or plant therapy, is based on this and other similar concepts. Plants provide us life, and we return the favor.

So a flower essence is a product that is purely energetic. It is created with using spring water, the flowering top of a plant, and the sun. That’s it! Following a very specific and pure process, you are left with water that has an imprint of that flower’s energy. This is usually where I lose the listener. But let’s remember that we are energy, plants are energy, and plants provide us therapy in many forms. Now, flower essences provide us with a very etheric therapy. Unlike essential oils that can support very physical changes in the body, flower essences work in the mental and emotional planes in a very subtle way.

Dr. Edward Bach, the creator of this therapy, felt that any disease of the body began in the mind and soul. Furthermore, he puts forward that “]t]here is no true healing unless there is a change in outlook, peace of mind and inner happiness.” Simply put, flower essence therapy is in many ways on the other end of the natural therapy spectrum from aromatherapy and essential oils. To me, it is another valuable tool to help us find real and lasting healing.
